Why a new Rio Vista Church?
Re:church was birthed in the heart of pastor Sean and Amanda in early 2013. While seeking God’s will for their lives, Sean and Amanda had the opportunity to visit Rio Vista. It was a quick trip, and they left to continue seeking where God would have them go. Several months later, another opportunity to come to Rio Vista presented itself, and this time they felt God leading them to this great little city.
After a decade in youth ministry, Pastor Sean’s heart was to see families encounter Jesus before crisis hit their lives. Too many young people had too many problems in life, and the best way to prevent that was to reach families before they were crying out to God out of hardship. They saw a great need for young people, and families, to have a place where they could come and experience the life giving power of Jesus.
So they picked up and moved out of Sacramento to start Re:church. Why Re:church? From the outside it looked like if you wanted a great Rio Vista church there were plenty to choose from… And there are! But Pastor Sean and Amanda desired to do church a little less traditional than the average Rio Vista church. So Re:church was birthed out of a desire to try church a little differently.
What does trying to do church different mean?
From the widow, single parent, alcoholic, to the tattooed, pierced or divorced (and everyone in-between) a lot of people have been rejected and displaced by the so called religious. Re:church wants everyone to feel welcome when they walk in the door. We also don’t feel trapped into a specific style or method of “doing church”. We believe the church is made up of incredibly unique and diverse people, and we want Re:church to reflect that.
So how does Re:church do church differently?
It means we’re open to unorthodox services. It means we don’t need to do church the way it’s been done. It means that while we value some traditions of the past, if they don’t serve a purpose today we won’t cling to them. It means we serve an exciting creative God, and worshiping Him should look like that. It means no matter your past or present, we know that God has a perfect plan for your life, and we’d love to help you get onto that path. We hope you’ll come and hang out with us, so that you can become part of “Our Story” in this new Rio Vista church.
