Winning Recipe: 1 cup Prayer, 2 cups Praise and Thanksgiving

Even a store bought cake mix requires a recipe. The reverse side of the package gives you the ingredient list to add to the dry mix: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup oil, and 1 1/4 cups water. Producing the perfect cake pictured on the package front depends on the baking time in the appropriate size pan at the correct temperature! Who knew? A winning recipe for life has key ingredients as well. This is not a complete list, but certainly the most important ones are 1 cup Prayer and 2 cups Praise and Thanksgiving. The outcome depends on time invested and how crucial your spiritual relationship with the Father God becomes.

1 cup of Prayer

Humans were created by God for a personal relationship with Him. That yearning for a spiritual connection within us has been called a God shaped void. Because a void cries out to be filled. We have chosen a variety of things, good and bad, to fill it . We will never be truly  satisfied until our God relationship is cultivated. Prayer is the primary vehicle to experience the spiritual connection with God. It establishes a two way  communication whereby our requests are laid out and His answers are received. That seems rather cut and dried, doesn’t it? Shouldn’t we share our feelings, emotions, hurts, dreams ,likes/dislikes and express love? Because God can be trusted with our most personal issues, that relationship can deepen and our desire to please Him rises. Psalm 141:2 says “May my prayer be set before you like incense, may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.”

2 cups Praise and Thanksgiving

Approaching God to communicate has a prerequisite. Psalm 100:4 gives it to us: Enter His (God’s) gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. Our human mind would be thankful when a blessing has come our way or praise when a favor has been shown us. The One True God  certainly deserves our thanksgiving and praise at these times. Most of all , He should be praised and thanked for WHO He is, for His  never changing character and His unfailing love for us. He should be praised for the provision of salvation through Jesus Christ and the hope of resurrection. When we dwell on how much we have been forgiven , how much we have been protected  and that our eternal home will be with Jesus and God, our list of petitions should fade. Because He is trustworthy, we can be at rest in His presence and experience peace . This is the winning recipe for life that could  shape a proper prospective toward God. Hebrews 13:15 puts it this way: Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name.
